Setup guide

Link DigiData to ChatGPT

This guide describes the route for a read-only DigiData MCP app in ChatGPT. Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan, workspace permissions and current OpenAI settings.

MCP server URL

https://mcp.digi-data.nl/mcp

Use one fixed Streamable HTTP URL; DigiData OAuth determines the tenant and allowed data.

Conditions

  • A DigiData administrator; viewers are not allowed to authorize a remote connection
  • Synchronized sources and a pre-chosen table and column selection
  • ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu with permission for developer mode and custom MCP apps
  • First, review your ChatGPT workspace and external data processing policies

60-second overview

  1. In ChatGPT, open the workspace settings and Apps
  2. As an authorized administrator, enable developer mode and choose Apps → Create
  3. Enter https://mcp.digi-data.nl/mcp and let ChatGPT check endpoint and tools
  4. Log in to DigiData, complete 2FA and restrict source, table and column access
  5. Publish or connect the app according to the workspace policy and test list_sources first

Current OpenAI steps

OpenAI still describes full MCP support as beta. Business administrators/owners and authorized Enterprise/Edu users can use developer mode; menu's and permissions can change. Therefore, always check the official OpenAI manuals.

  • Developer mode: Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data, or Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings where available
  • Create a custom app, enter the remote MCP URL and check the tools found
  • Complete DigiData OAuth and consent; offline_access is needed when the client needs to use refresh tokens
  • Test in a new conversation with a source or schema question before requesting records

Safe start prompts

  • Which data sources and tables are available to me? Don't show records yet.
  • What is the last synchronization time of Exact Online?
  • Show the 20 largest open invoices with customer, amount and due date.
  • Group this year's turnover per month and state the table and reference date used.
  • Which columns can I use to analyze project margin? First describe the diagram.

Change or revoke access

Change the allowed sources, tables and columns in DigiData. Revoke the connection in DigiData to immediately block further tool calls and token refreshes; In addition, remove the modified app from ChatGPT when you no longer use it.

Troubleshooting

  • 401: log in again; the session or access token may have expired or been revoked.
  • 403: Check your DigiData role, workspace policy, and the tables and columns allowed for the connection.
  • 429: wait briefly and reduce the demand; the connection protects tenant and database with limits.
  • Timeout: request fewer records or columns and use a narrower date filter.
  • Missing table: Verify that the source is synced and the table is explicitly allowed.
  • Outdated data: first ask for the synchronization status and last successful synchronization.
  • IP policy: the cloud provider does not use the customer's browser IP; a separate, explicit tenant policy applies to MCP.

Privacy at ChatGPT

DigiData only returns data that is allowed for this connection and does not use customer questions or company data to train models. Once data is sent to ChatGPT, Claude or another chosen assistant, that provider processes its own copy under that provider's contract, subscription, settings and retention periods. DigiData therefore cannot promise that every configuration of an external assistant has the same data policy.
