Does your company data remain in the EU with ChatGPT, Claude and DigiData?

DigiData stores its own user and application data in the EU; data that goes to an external assistant via MCP is also subject to its terms and conditions.

Short answer

DigiData stores its own user and application data within the EU. This does not automatically mean that every external AI copy remains in the EU. When an administrator sends data via MCP to ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant, that provider processes a separate copy under the chosen plan, contract and settings.

Two storage boundaries

The right question is not only where DigiData stores, but also which other party receives a copy after a deliberate output. DigiData stores its own user and application data within the EU. This includes accounts, synchronized company records, configuration, conversations, outputs, files and content logs within the DigiData environment.

A MCP connection is a customer-authorized export. When ChatGPT or Claude requests allowed data, the result goes to that provider. From that moment on, in addition to DigiData, the provider plan, contract, management settings and retention periods of that provider also apply.

ChatGPT is not a single data policy

OpenAI documents storage for consumer services on systems in the United States and other countries. OpenAI also offers data and inference residency options for select business plans and regions. That doesn't automatically make a regular personal subscription the same as a managed Enterprise or Edu workspace.

Therefore, check product, workspace, region settings, connector policy and contract. The current ChatGPT setup guide refers to the official provider steps, but your own organization remains responsible for the plan review.

The product and contract also count for Claude

Anthropic publishes privacy and commercial terms for various products. A personal Claude product and Claude for Work or API use are not the same contractual context. Check the current privacy statement, organizational settings and any processing agreements before linking company data.

The Claude setup guide describes the technical connection; it does not replace a legal or privacy assessment.

DigiData AI and Azure

DigiData AI uses the configured Azure foundation model service. Microsoft documents that prompts and completions for Azure Direct Models are not used to train foundation models without permission. Processing location also depends on the chosen Azure deployment type and configuration.

The DigiData promise is about the actually configured own user and application data. It is not a promise about every copy that a customer knowingly exports to a third-party provider.

What must an administrator record?

  • Which provider, product variant and workspace are allowed?
  • Which sources, tables and columns can that workspace receive?
  • In which region does the provider process and store this configuration?
  • What retention period, training setting and support access apply?
  • Who withdraws the DigiData connection and provider connector in the event of termination of employment or a change in necessity?

Technical limitation remains necessary

Even with an approved EU configuration, data minimization remains essential. Use OAuth, a connection per user and tenant, read-only tools and a server-side allowlist. Don't share a broad data set because the provider supports a specific region. For this, see MCP safety.

Summary

DigiData keeps its own application data in the EU. An external MCP client creates a second processing boundary that must be assessed separately. Compare routes on DigiData AI vs. ChatGPT or Claude and recheck provider policies when plan, settings, or terms change.
